Food insecurity is becoming a problem for an increasing number of South African women, who head most single-person households. More than 6 million of South Africa’s population suffer from hunger and food insecurity. Conflict and insecurity, climate change, poverty, and population growth are the main causes of hunger and food insecurity. In 2022, 23.6% of South Africans were experiencing moderate to severe food insecurity. Only people who can grow their own crops will be able to feed their families and their communities in the near future.

Readirela Skills Academy in partnership with AgriSETA has noted these dire circumstances and resolved to empower people to effectively cultivate food to sustain their communities.
